Patients with Atrial Flutter and patients with Atrial Fibrillation scheduled to undergo RF ablation of the cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI). Both male and female subjects who meet all eligibility criteria and give written informed consent will be enrolled in the study. OBJECTIVE To describe the electrocardiographic and electrophysiological findings of new atrial flutter developing in patients taking class IC antiarrhythmic drugs for recurrent atrial fibrillation, and to report the long term results of right atrial isthmus ablation in relation to the ECG pattern of spontaneous atrial flutter.

Ablation of Cavotricuspid Isthmus–Dependent Atrial Flutters Abstracts Cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI)-dependent atrial flutter (AFL) is a common atrial arrhythmia, often occurring in association with atrial fibrillation, that may cause significant symptoms because of a rapid ventricular response, and it may cause embolic stroke, and rarely a tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy. 2002-07-01 · Nabar A, Rodriguez LM, Timmermans C, et al.

Bidirectional isthmus block is a criterion of successful ablation and is associated with the presence of different activation times on each side of the ablation line. A typical left atrial (LA) flutter may occur as a proarrhythmic complication of LA ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). 1–3 However, patients also may experience typical atrial flutter arising from the cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) after ablation of AF. 4 Because LA ablation may alter the normal activation pattern of the LA, 2 it is possible that the 12-lead ECG of CTI-dependent flutter may not appear “typical” after AF ablation.
